Messages for Your Mum – Revel
Messages for Your Mum

Mothers' day is about a week away, and I admit I was getting a little worried about what I should do for my mum. Turning to my younger brother for help, as I do rarely, I sat down with him to ask what I should do. I guess all kids are introspective, because while he didn't say much, he did mention something helpful: "I think you're getting too concerned with the what than the why. I don't think mum's going to care what you get here, but she would care about why you got her whatever you did."

Huh. Kids, am I right?

So this year I've decided to go back to the basics. Over the past few years, I've usually just gotten her a gift and a slice of cake to celebrate this special day. This year though, I think I'm gonna make it more classic: A beautiful card, a breakfast made by yours truly, and a day out to some of her favourite places. While the latter seem manageable, it's the card that I need to be impressive. Often times, we take our mothers for granted — this causes our letters and cards to be detached and short. But I think it's important to remember (not just on Mothers' Day) that our mothers have been with us through thick and thin. They've scolded us, cried with us, played with us, and brought out the best in us, and it would be nice for us to express our gratitude towards them with heartfelt words.

If you're stuck, there are some directions you could take:

  • Thank them for being there for every step of the way.
  • Make amendments if you're having a rocky relationship. Winning an argument might seem like the best option right now, but your pride is not worth missing out on your mother's love.
  • Include jokes and anecdotes that are personal to the both of you.
  • Explain how you expect to show her love and affection in the future. Often times, we start and stop at Mothers' Day to show our gratitude. Let's try to make it a more inclusive and regular habit.

I am excited for this upcoming Mothers' Day. I think it's going to be a whole lot of fun by dedicating the day to her! I hope you are too, and I hope that this post encouraged you to send messages to your mum. If you're at a loss as to where to start, check out Revel's collection of Mothers' Day cards
